I put this prayer request in around Memorial day. It came through the Prayer Chain. Please read through this awesome testimony of God's mercy, grace and healing powers. I was touched.
John, here is an update regarding Karin Lucas, our family friend who had the devastating motorcycle accident over the Memorial Day holiday. Her husband, Greg Lucas, wrote it and it's a very powerful and touching story! Thank you to everyone for keeping Karin in their prayers & thank You Jesus for taking such good care of our friend! Julie Counts To all my friends and fellow Christians, It has been awhile since I last wrote or we spoke. I apologize for the lengthy delay in responding. Life has settled down a little and I thought that this would be a good time to let everyone know what has been going on. As many of you know, on May 27th, 2004, Karin and I were riding our motorcycles down to the Gulf coast for a relaxing weekend of fishing. We left on time that Thursday afternoon and all was going well until we got to Austin. There the very heavy traffic took its toll upon both of us and we began to become tired. A few hours later we made it to San Antonio where we had reservations at a motel. Unfortunately we missed our exit for the motel and thus we took the next exit so we could turn around. We both stopped at the stop sign. I made my turn and then heard Karin take off. As I looked in my rearview mirror I saw her bike hit the curb on the far side of the overpass. All I saw was her motorcycle flip and tumble. My heart nearly stopped in fear. As quickly as I could I turned my own bike around and raced back to her. A man had already stopped and his headlights were on the wreckage. I got off my bike looking for Karin in the tangle of metal and glass. I could not find her so I asked the man, "Where's my wife? Where's my wife!? His next words crushed me as if a mountain had fallen on me. ˜She went over the bridge", he said. As I looked over the edge of the overpass I could see her far below, face down, her yellow t-shirt almost glowing in the darkness. I began to cry out the name of Jesus. I didn't know what else to do. I told the man to call 911 and he replied that he had already done so. The nightmare had begun. I got down to Karin as fast as I could, praying harder than I had ever done. For those people who had begun to gather they must have thought that I was some sort of a religious fanatic if for no other reason but that I was crying out to our Lord to save Karin. When I got down to Karin I put my hand on her. I didn't know if she was dead or alive. Thank God that she was still breathing. Just barely, but breathing. After a few minutes she began to move. There was a woman who had come down to where we were at and I could hear her telling me not to move Karin. I had no intention of moving her but Karin was beginning to try to speak and her voice was very weak. I turned Karin's head so she could breathe better. The first words out of her were that she hurt and couldn't breathe. She began to roll over and I had to restrain her as best I could. I could tell that she was badly hurt. I took her helmet and riding glasses off her and could see some blood coming out of her mouth. All I could do was hold her and pray. The ambulance got there in less than ten minutes. That in itself is a miracle considering that we were out in the middle of nowhere. The paramedics got there and began to work on her. The police began questioning me. I began to go numb. Time seemed to stop. When it was time to transport Karin to the hospital I had to go back up to the bikes and transfer all the stuff from her bike to mine. The police were trying hard to be as helpful as they could be. One of them insisted that I didn't need to worry about all the stuff on her bike, they would secure it. I had to explain that I had to get her bags because I carried the pants but her bag contained the underwear. The officers tried to tell me where the hospital was that they were taking Karin to but they might as well have been speaking a foreign language. Reluctantly they volunteered to escort me. One of the officers instructed me to turn my bike around and follow him. At speeds that reached in excess of 80mph, we got to the hospital pretty fast. Later that night one of the officers even went and parked my bike for me. All in all, the San Antonio police are A-1 with me. An emergency room is a lonely place at 1 am. I was in the first stages of shock and felt completely alone. Several forms were shoved in front of me to fill out. Somehow I managed to complete them. They brought Karin's clothing to me in a bag, explaining that they had to be cut off of her. Her riding boots were there also along with one glove. I asked where the other glove was and they told me they didn't know. Strange what one thinks about in such a situation. After a while a hospital chaplain came and let me know that Karin could move her toes and was conscious. Now that I look back I see that was all that she could tell me because it wasn't clear whether Karin would live or die. The surgeons came in to tell me about the operation that they had to perform. Karin had a lacerated aorta near her heart. If they didn't operate right away Karin would die. They told me that they were the best there was and they would do a good job. They were true to their word and Karin came through with flying colors. But that was only the beginning. Karin's injuries were as follows: A two centimeter (about an inch) laceration in her aorta, her T-4 vertebrae was fractured, a compressed fracture of T-5 through T-10 vertebrae, Four broken ribs in the posterior region (#'s 5,8,9,10), a lacerated left kidney, right arm broken above the wrist, severely dislocated right elbow, broken right scapula (shoulder blade), broken big toe (left foot), severely bruised lungs, and also trauma to practically every other major organ in her body. When a person falls from a 30ft. bridge, it has a devastating effect on the human body. After the surgery to repair her aorta, Karin's body swelled up so much that you could not see her eyelashes anymore. Now for the praise report. When Karin went over that bridge, she landed in a soft patch of grass. If she had gone four feet in any other direction she would be dead. In one direction was the hi-way, or a guard rail, or the concrete under the bridge. But God in His mercy allowed Karin to land on grass. I gave the doctors permission to remove Karin's lacerated kidney if it became necessary. God healed that outright and she never even passed any blood in her urine. Her broken back did not injure Karin's spinal cord at all, and as a matter of fact, this injury has never given her much trouble. Karin was basically unconscious for the four weeks that she spent in ICU. Because of that she has no recollection of any of the pain and suffering that she went through. In fact all she remembers is that she made a left hand turn on her bike and woke up in the hospital a month later. There are times when I wish I could say the same. Unfortunately I remember everything about the accident and probably always will. The Lord is also healing me. The accident happened on May 27th. Almost every doctor that we have seen has said the same thing and that is that Karin should be dead from her injuries. All are amazed at how quickly she has healed. We give ALL praise and glory to our God and Father. This past Monday, September 13, Karin went back to work! Do the math. That is less than four months from almost dead to up and about and going back to work. OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!!!! The doctors were given the ability to do the mechanics of Karin's care. It is God who has done the real healing and He still is healing both Karin and me. Please keep my wife and me in your prayers. Please pray that God will continue to restore her lungs to full capacity (she still has to take breathing treatments every 6 hours). The only other thing that we are still dealing with is Karin's vocal cord that was paralyzed during her aorta operation. We are praying that it will reanimate so and her voice will be completely normal again. I have learned a lot through all this. I have learned to trust in God for all things. He has never left nor forsaken us. I am learning to see God's power at work all around me. This will take a lifetime I suppose. I want you all to know that you have been in my thoughts and in my heart throughout this ordeal. Things are getting back to normal around here so I should be able to function better. You have been in my prayers and I know that God hears all my prayers as He does all His children's prayers. If you write please be patient with me. I will respond as quickly as I can. Always remember how good God has been to each of us. His love knows no limits. May God bless each of you in very special way this day and every day. Love You Very Much, Greg Lucas 22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Most Gracious and HOly God,
We thank you that we do not always come to you with a request, but that we do come to you with nothing but thanksgiving. Master we thank you for always answering our prayer, evening if they are not the way we would want them. Lord we love you and we just thank you for all the answered prayer! Amen and Amen Luke 2:49b Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business? |
