Dear Family, a young girl from our church is in dire need of a miracle. God has already begun to act financially for this missionary's child; but, she must get an intestinal transplant soon or experience divine healing from our Lord. Her parents are missionaries to Brazil. Karis is in Pittsburgh where she is awaiting word that a donor has been found. She has twice been prepped for surgery only to find the intestine was not perfect. She loves the Lord with all her heart and is such an inspiration to everyone who meets her or who hears of her. Please join us in showering heaven with requests for her life and her health. You may read about her at: Karis Kornfield

Father, I come to you asking that you help this precious child. Lord we know that you have a plan for each and every single on of us and we just thank you right now for your plans for us. Father knowing that you have a plan for us gets hard sometime, because things come and we just do not understand it – but I ask that you give us the supernatural peace knowing that you are working it all for us. Lord we thank you right now for stepping in and healing this child. Father in your mighty name we come boldly to you waiting with expectation knowing that you are working all things out. Amen

Dear Family, God has begun to answer prayer. Karis' father was able to come from Brazil.

I ask something a little unusual; but, believe it to be Scriptural. If you feel led, please pray aloud the prayer I offer below; agreeing with me for Karis' healing. Scripture says where two on earth agree concerning "any thing that they ask" it shall be done for them by My Father which is in heaven. (Matt. 18:19)" We know the spoken Word is vitally important (Heb. 1:3): By His Words, God framed the worlds (Heb. 11:3). My prayer is for Karis' utter and complete healing. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in us; and, if that Spirit dwells in us, He will quicken our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). Jesus was raised by the supernatural power of an immortal life (Heb. 7:16). That eternal, immortal Spirit of life lives in Karis. So, my prayer for her is this:

Father, please grant our hearts faith to pray together in agreement for the manifestation of Your presence in Karis' body. We do not ask for anything You have not already promised. We do not ask unworthily; for we come in the Name of Your Son, Jesus. You have told us to come boldly to Your throne of grace and find mercy to help in our time of need (Heb. 4:16). Lord God Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth, this is our time of need! Your child has believed for 20 years and remained true and steadfast in her love for You and her service to the body of Christ. We come before You asking only what is due any child of the King. We saw Jesus grant healing time after time to "everyone who came to Him." We ask nothing more than this: that You show no partiality according to Your Word and Your Great Name (Job 34:19). You are the same Yesterday, Today and Forever! Almighty God, Glorify Your Name and Your Son. Act speedily in Karis' behalf! And, we will give You praise and glory and honour that is due Your Holy Name. Amen!

Dear Family, we have seen an answer to prayer for a financial gifting to help Karis; but, I sent her the info several days ago and have not heard back. She has been in such serious condition as she waits a donor. Please pray for her. Our God is able to heal her body completely. I believe He wants to heal her. Please storm the gates of heaven with me in her behalf! In an email I received from her several weeks ago, she expressed concern repeatedly for others: 1) for the missionaries who would be impacted financially by her use of the insurance 2) for the abused woman that her mother had to leave in order to be by her side 3) for the other patients waiting for transplant 4) for her hosts who are facing financial challenges...While she endures the effects of this life-limiting condition, and the knowledge that without Divine intervention, she must have a transplant to live, her focus is on the well-being of others...It's remarkable.

Father, we call to remembrance Your words: that if we ask anything according to Your Word, we shall have whatsoever we say. Lord, we ask for complete and total supernatural healing for Karis. Father, we know that all it will take is that one touch from Your mighty hand; that one Word from Your mouth, and she will be healed. We know that You love her, and that Your Word is real and valid today. Father, I call to Your remembrance Ps. 41: " Blessed is he/she who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him/her in times of trouble. The LORD will protect him/her and preserve his/her life; He will bless him/her in the land and not surrender him/her to the desire of his/her foes. The LORD will sustain him/her on his/her sickbed
and restore him/her from his/her bed of illness." Lord, God! Hearken to the Voice of Your Word! Arise, Adonai! And, fulfill Your Promise Today! And, we will give You all the praise and glory and honour due Your Most Holy Name! Trustworthy is our God!!!

Eternal and Holy God,
We lift Karis up to you right now. Father we realize and know that in your right time you will heal her. We know – because you did it so many times in before. Lord you bring the dead alive so we know that you can and will heal this precious gift. Lord Jesus we come with humble hearts realizing that we have not always obey your word – but we ask that you look past our faults and bless us anyway. Master I ask that you grant the 1. Prayer request regarding the missionaries/financial/insurance need. Lord we know we that you will supply all our needs. I have seen it this week in my life alone. I thank you for the 3 people you have sent in my life this week alone asking me for my banking information to bless me financial so I know you will grant this request. Then Master we lift up the abused women we ask that you protect all involved and have your way in their lives. Lord protect them – because we know that hurt people hurt people and we ask for healing Lord. Then Lord Jesus I pray for all those who are awaiting a transplant. Father we thank you that you gave others the mind to be able to carry out such a task to help another person live. Lord we thank you for each and every organ/tissue in our body. Jesus we even thank you for those we take for granted. Finally father we ask that you supply for all those who are faced with financial challenges right now – in your word you said we are joint heirs to the kingdom. Father all this is ours if we ask – because we are joint heirs and we ask right now for your divine intervention in all four points and in points/needs that were not mentioned – because we do not know about them as of yet. Master we thank you right not, we love you and most importantly we need you father. Please do not every take your spirit away from us. Amen

Karis had the intestinal transplant Wednesday. She came through it well and the doctors have her in a sleep induced coma for 3 weeks to allow it to "take" and to not be disturbed. Please pray that the organ will be accepted by her body; that she will not experience any side effects from the anti-rejection drugs and that she may have a long and healthy life of service for Christ. Please pray that God will provide financially for her family as she and her mother have to stay in Pittsburgh for six months due to all of the monitoring necessary during this critical time. Also, her little sister (in highschool in Brazil) will be alone much of the next six months as their daddy is a missionary who travels extensively. Please pray that she will be well taken care of and that she will be kept in our Father's care and experience His closeness during this time. Thank you all for your faithfulness! Terri

I am praying for healing for Karis and for help and strength for all her family. May the Lord watch over and protect her little sister and her dad. May the Lord reward her evangelist father abundantly because he has to leave his family to travel in his misson work. Jesus said that if you leave family to do his work God would reward you many times over with all that you lost in this life and the life to come.

Precious Lord,

I join my brethren in prayer for the life of Karis. I beg You, Lord, to add Karis' name to the list of children miraculously saved by the Power of our Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit as recorded in the Bible. I beg You to utter her name like a thunder, because all things come into existence when You name them.
I beg You to enlighten all doctor and nurses dealing with her case so they can take the right decisions. I beg You to comfort and strengthen Karis' parents and relatives to bear with this situation and stay faithful.
Thank You, Lord, for accepting our prayers on behalf of Karis.
Amen

This is an update from Karis mom last night. Please continue to pray! Our God is able and willing and He is faithful to hear and answer the prayers of His servants!

Tuesday, 07-sep-2004

12:00 MIDNIGHT EST: Karis isn't doing real well tonight, having to go back to the ICU temporarily. She is battling an intestinal rejection. The docs took her back to the ICU to administer a very strong drug that needs to be monitored for its many side effects. They'll give her a second dose late tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and if she responds well, she'll be able to go back to her normal room. She's puffy with liquids, but low on blood, feeling real weak. They're giving her a unit of blood which should help her feel much better.

We haven't heard any more today. If you want to keep updated you can go to: Karis Update

Thanks so much for your prayers! Terri

Dear Family,
this is the post from last night. I know God is faithful; but, the last few lines show why we're so important as Prayer Warriors in these battles:

6:00 PM EST: Karis isn't doing real well, continuing in the ICU. We had to take her things out of "her" room on 7 North, taking down some 40-50 cards that we'd taped on the walls and a big poster of Iguaçu Falls (Brazil), and letting the nurse's station have her flowers. The side effects of the anti-rejection medicine (OKT3) are hard on Karis, the worst being that her heart rate went down to 35 per minute. When medication was given to reverse that, within ten minutes her heart rate was up at 142 per minute, four times what it had been, and Karis was shaking violently. As Deb says, "we had a small crisis." But it showed the value of being in the ICU. Karis has had some difficulties breathing, needing to be on 6 liters of oxygen and Lasix (diuretic) to help her get rid of excess liquids again. She feels stronger, though, from the blood she received last night. Normal blood levels should be around 12 and she was down to 8. She's running a low fever, but that was expected, and the doctors don't seem to be surprised or alarmed about her bloody stool; guess it's due to the breakdown of her transplanted intestinal tissues by her own immune system, which is what the OKT3 is supposed to inhibit.

The hardest thing for her about this rejection not turning around just with steroids was having to go back to not feeling well and confined again to ICU, when she had just been starting to feel better and getting interested in having visitors and contact with her friends by phone. But the doctors assure her that this is just a "blip" that will soon pass and she'll be back on the road to recovery. Initially they're planning 5 days of OKT3 therapy, to be reevaluated with another endoscopy and biopsies. If she stabilizes, she may be able to go back to 7 North sooner than 5 days. I asked her what she wanted prayer for, and she said, "Please pray that I can keep up my spirits; I'm a little bit discouraged." We know that God is good, even when our experience seems difficult.

Dear Family, the following is the latest update on Karis. PRAISE BE TO OUR MOST LOVING AND GRACIOUS GOD! Please continue to keep her blanketed in your prayers and thank you for your faithfulness and love! Terri

Friday, 10-sep-2004

5:00 PM EST: Karis is doing real well, feeling energetic and excited to be out of the ICU. She has no fever, pain, is no longer hooked up to oxygen and monitors and had no side effects from the medication for rejection today, her body having made the necessary adjustments. She still has some symptoms of rejection, but the doctors are optimistic that they will go away in the next 3-4 days. She'll have a new endoscopy on Monday to see how her intestine is doing. She went to the hospital library and is ready to receive phone calls and visits. If she's tired, she may turn off the phone or have someone else answer. Her phone number is 412-692-8170 and her room number on the 7 North floor is 7646 (or just 46).
Aleluya! Another victorious chapter!

Dear Family, please continue to pray fervently! While we know and believe that God is the Victor, Satan is getting in some licks and I ask that you pray for the Warring Angels to come to surround her and protect her and to minister salvation and deliverance to her! Trustworthy is our God!

Monday, 13-sep-2004 (Update from Karis' Momma)

12:00 MIDNIGHT EST: David and I just got home from the hospital. I stayed overnight with Karis last night to be sure I would be there for the endoscopy this morning, since they sometimes call for her very early. I'm glad I did, because having seen the condition of her intestine I was prepared for the decision that was made when the biopsy results came out late this afternoon to continue the OKT3 four more days. There is a lot of healing happening, but still some rejection. So it will be a few more days yet before Karis is free from spending several hours each day receiving and then recovering from the daily dose of OKT3. She received a unit of blood this evening, which should help her feel less tired and improve her breathing.

Ironic, huh: the reason Karis is having a hard time overcoming this
rejection is that she is so strong. Karis and I were joking today about
finding some subliminal way for her to communicate to herself that she need to stop fighting herself. The medical strategy is to weaken her, which of course makes her vulnerable to infection . . .

We appreciate so much your support in prayer!

Family~Great news!! Praise God Almighty for He does all things well! <3 Ter

Wednesday, 15-sep-2004 (Karis)

I can barely believe it's been three weeks! My father left today--he just called confirming that he had made his flight (by the skin of his teeth, as always) after kissing me goodbye despite the oxygen contraption on my face. It was so good having him here. I joked with my parents, asking them what it was like to have a baby like this in their fifties, to start
all over again--giving baths, water, waking up at night to the crying... they've been wonderful with me, constantly by my side. I've
been surrounded these past three weeks, not only by their tenderness, but by yours. So many people who read this website and have prayed, sent cards... there is no way for me to thank you for your care. I know your prayers have been worth much before the Throne. Today was a good day, look, I'm even well enough to write... God is good. love, Karis
