Aloha & God bless you =) I was seeking some council concerning a Bible study I was doing in Micah & came accross chapter 2 verse 7, & in the 2nd clause it says "do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?" & I was wondering if you had any good cross references to that thought - I am sure I read somewhere else that God's word is good to ppl who are good but a detriment to ppl who are evil; but in my meditations I cant remember where. The cross references I have so far are these - 2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (might as well throw verse 17 in there too) That the man of God may be throughly furnished unto all good works. & Rom 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: (not that great of a cross reference because it is talking about rulers & not God's word, but God's word is supposed to be our rulebook among other things) & Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door... Also not that great of a reference but similar enough for me to include, also in the back of my mind is Rom 8:28. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Slade,
Here are three references that may be helpful to you – Proverbs 10:29 The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. Proverbs 28:18 He that walks justly is assisted: but he that walks in crooked ways shall be entangled therein. Hosea 14:9 Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the Lord are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But transgressors will stumble in them. In all of these verses, "the way" or "ways" refers to the instructions of the Lord in His Word. Blessings, Chelki Exodus 34:6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;" "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" -- Jesus, the Messiah!, our salvation. |

Acttually I think those burning coals are a symbol of the Holy Spirit working on a person to make them want to repent, wich would be a good thing to the evil person... Thanks to you both, & I think I am going to use Proverbs 10:29 The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. as it is probably the closest to what i am looking for =) Hey I was wondering what understanding you guys have on the earlier part of the verse, you see I did a study a long time ago because I use the KJV, & it says "is the spirit of the Lord straightened?" Well I assumed that straightened is an archaic term so I looked up the origonal word in my interlinnear bible & my hebrew-chaldee lexicon that is keyed to strongs numbers of the origonal words & I found that straightened could mean shortened, therefore the clause says "is the spirit of the Lord made of less effect? but I was studying with someone who reads the NIV & his version said something like angry right there...

Slade:
Here are a few cross-references you may find helpful. Pr 2:7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. Pr 10:9 ¶ He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. Isa 50:2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst. Isa 59:1 ¶ Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Ps 25:10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. |

Slade,
referring back to micah 2:7 - I have the "New King James Version" and it says "You who are named the house of Jacob; Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted? Are these His doings? Do not My words do good to him who walks uprightly?" I think that restricted is a good translation. Hope this helps. kat |

yes kat restricted is similar to what my study turned up wich was shortened. And I just came accross that verse in Hos 14:9 & Chelki was right, that was a great cross referece although it said the ways of the Lord as compared to the word of the Lord, bit then Jesus is the way, truth & the life & the word of God, not to mention the door & the light of the world so continue to praise him & thanks again for all your helps =)
