I am not an American and so do not know locations in your country.
But I have the following for you. When we talk of a real church, you should take into consideration the following:
* Does the church tell you about salvation of your soul? * When you fall into sin, do you ask God for forgiveness or you go to man? Rom.3:23 * Are you encouraged to receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and be saved with your name written in the book of life instead of falling in and out of sin? * Does the church have a time for Bible study or is it just what somebody says on the altar on Sunday that is the final for the week? - Heb.10:25 * Are you allowed to pray only in Jesus name? * Is there time for prayers i.e. prayer meetings? * Does the church believe in graven images (see Exodus 20:1:5) * Are you expected to ask a dead person (supposed saint) or angel to pray for you? (Heb 1:7,14)(Luke 18:1; 2 Thess 1:17) * Will you be expected to worship with incense, candles or a particular garment?
Remember that "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth" - John 4:24.
I pray God will guide you in your choice of a real church. The choice you make should draw you closer to God and lead you to heaven.
Well, I didn't mean to imply I was at some type of ritualistic church but what I meant by real is basically a church that follows the bible!
As for asking about the Catholic Church, I have certain beliefs that some of the things they teach are wrong but was wondering if anyone could explain their setup to me.
Chick Publications is a Christian publisher that has an easy-to-read book on the subject. It is called "Understanding Roman Catholicism." Go to this site: http://www.chick.com/catalog/books/0160.asp where you can get this book for $11.00. You might find it cheaper at amazon.com. In your search, look for a church that teaches the whole Bible. The Old Testament is very relevant today, since Jesus taught from the writings and said, "These are they that testify of Me."
God bless you as you search for a Bible-based church.
I appreciate your reply. Obviously, many of the points on your list of considerations are focused on the many many false doctrines contained in the Catholic church. Perhaps you have assisted others in direction in addition to elterrible. Thank you. God Bless You.
