In the Ten Commandments it says that 6 Days shall i labor and all thy work but the 7th DAY IS THE SABBATH. The seventh day of our week is Saturday. So why do people go to church on Sunday. Sunday is the first day of the week. If you go to church on Sunday wouldnt that be going against the bible. So would that mean you are a true man/women of GOD. Christians go to church on Sunday and Christian means: Christ like so are they being like christ if they go against his word.

Well I have a few things to say about this one... 1st of all going to church on Sunday is by no means going against God's word - if you don't believe me then look at Acts 20:7 - "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight."
I believe that the reason that it became a custom to go to church on the 1st day of the week is because I heard that the Jews had a custom to not walk more than 3/4 mile on the sabbath & when the people who followed Jesus were just starting it wasn't like it is now where there is a church on every other corner - they were few & far between & so they would meet on the 1st day of the week to allow the Jews who lived more than 3/8 mile away to participate. (I don't know the accuracy of this paragraph as I never saw any verification of this idea, it's just something one of my pastors said & I said sounded plausible) Although one passage (Acts 15:21) expected the christians to go to a synagouge which was more proliferated the christians were considered a cult & were mistreated by the Jews in said synagouges. Also the Catholics promoted it because Jesus was raised from the dead on the 1st day of the week & so they call it the Lord's day. 2nd of all Jesus taught that "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:" (Mk 2:27) That tells me that the sabbath is for our rest not to prevent us from doing God's will; cp. Heb 3:13 - "But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin." & Heb 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.". 3rd of all how we keep the sabbath Holy (set apart) is going to be told to us by God - some people may do it one way & other people may do it another way (For me - I try my best to manipulate my life so as to not have to do any work on the sabbath but if I have to do something that I would normally get paid for on the sabbath, I will not accept money & do it out of the kindness of my heart; the scripture says in Col 3:22-23 "Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;" so even when I work for men I am working for God) - the scripture says it is not our job to judge someone else for how they do it - that is God's job. Cp. Romans chapter 14 (yes you should read or better yet study the whole thing) & Col 2:16-17 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." 4th of all a lot of people focus on the 1st 5 books of the bible & call that the "law" but I found a "law" about the sabbath that is in Isaiah 58:13 "If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:" & that tells me that I shouldn't be doing anything that "I" want to do on the sabbath, but rather what God wants me to do. Now if God doesn't want you to go to church on sunday that is between you & him, but I would venture a guess that God wants us in church every day of the week. Look at Acts 2:42 - "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." - that word "steadfastly" looks a lot like "daily" - also Jesus said that "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Mt 4:4) - well let me ask you - do you eat physical food only one day a week? I believe that anyone who only gets their scriptures one day a week is spiritually starving. If you look at the verse in 1 Cor 6:19 it says - "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" so our bodies are the temple of God; if God does indeed live within us as we claim as christians - as a result there is not a miniute of any day that goes by that you are not "in church" because you are the church. There is a thought I forgot: Jesus said "This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." (Jn 6:29) - now if we focus on this verse there is not a day in the calendar that we as christians should stop working. Also - because we are always supposed to do the will of God, & we are not to work on the sabbath, doing the will of God is not work. The scripture says in Jn 10:1-5 that "the sheep hear his voice" & "they know his voice." - so I suggest you listen & do what God tells you. Every day I live for Him & am looking for opprotunities to share His word with people. Going to church is just another excuse to do that. Also Jesus said "My house shall be called the house of prayer" (Mt 21:13) & 1 Thess 5:17 says "Pray without ceasing." so all the time is the right time to go to church - from this standpoint I feel that anyone who says that they don't want to go to church for any reason - like not on sunday because it is not the sabbath, is looking for excuses not to go to church - is this really the behavior that the members of God's church should be exhibiting? On the flipside I feel that any church that closes & locks it's doors is a major dissapointment if not just simply breaking the scripture that says "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Mt 11:28) that passage doesnt go like "come unto me during business hours & I will let you in & maybe you can find some rest after we have you fill out this paperwork before we help you...but don't show up at dark 30 because my doors will be locked.". "The more you know, the more you should realize how much you have to learn" Slade "God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you" (1 Sam 12:23) "let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified" (70 Ps 4) All scriptures are King James (Authorized) Version unless otherwise noted http://willbf.yolasite.com/ |
