Hi,

When I was around 10 years old I came forward to be saved. Soon after I was baptised in water. I don't feel I really understood what I was doing at that time. As I became a teenager I fell away from God and sin became prevelant in my life. At 39 I have recently came foward and redecated my life to Christ. My question is should do you feel that I should be rebaptised? I feel a pulling to do so.

Thanks,

Marc

I heard the jews think that the age of awareness is 13, so if you feel that God is asking you to get re-baptized then I would just obey. I am a staunch believer in re-baptism if at the time of baptism the baptizee didn't have a working understanding of the following passage: Rom 6:1-11

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Of course if you do have an understanding of the passage you would know that you don't have to be re-baptized as we are copying Jesus, who only died & was buried & ressurected once.

Also good reading is this passage in Acts 19:1-6:

"And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."

We have to realize that baptism is an outward sign of an inward work - God is changing us & so we in order to be obedient will identify ourselves with Jesus' death burial & ressurection. And the more we are obedient the more God blesses us (as I have been learning with my own increased obedience).

God bless you, I pray that your relationship with the father grows deeper & deeper, more & more as the days go on. 2 Cor 3:18 "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."

Thank you for your awesome knowledge in God's word. What you said made since and helped me with my decision to get rebaptised. I know in my heart that this is the right thing to do. Thank you for being so nice to share your knowledge with us Slade. You are a great inspiration and help on this website.

Thanks again,

Baptism

Has anyone got any great ideas for this? Thought about doing re-enacting a baptism, talking about the signs and symbols of it but not sure what activity to get the children to do afterwards. Do you know of any songs and prayers relating to it?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
