When going to a shop, and the salesperson who should assist you, gives you A LOT of bad attitude, what must I as a child of God do...

1. Report that person to his/her management?

Or

2. Just forgive and forget, and never shop there again?
Confused

Show the love of Christ. Your love may be the only gospel message that person will ever see. We love others, not because they earn our love, but because Christ first loved us.

Olivia,

I agree with Steve. If we show people the grace and the Love God gives us,we will always show the submission we have for our father. Everyday we are challenged by people like you mentioned. Please remember we are better people when we pray and ask God to show us and guide us in the actions we take. I pray that the person that you mentioned and people that walk with anger, pride, grief get a touch from the powerful of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord continue to minister to your heart and may the light of God shine through you always.

God's Love never ends!!!!!

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. Romans 1:11-12

Hello Olivia,

Over the past few years, many people report a general degradation of civility or good manners among people. Rudeness, sadly to say, is becomming a more common characteristic among all ages. As we become more computer oriented and the pace of life becomes more intense, perhaps rudeness and bad attitudes are products of such life styles. Surely, a sin filled society generates much of the feeling that leads to rudeness and poorly delivered service.

In Romans, chapter 12, we are given wonderful nuggets of truth on how to handle the service of love to others. Notice verses 17-21:

Romans 12: 17-21

17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

When we are delievered poor service or when someone is rude to us, the response of the flesh is to return an angry remark or perhaps strike out in some other way. Many people who are recipients of rudeness on the highways while driving identify with this.

Verse 21 provides a nice summary of how God would have us react to rudeness. Overcome evil with good.

Back to your question, Olivia. You pose two very different alternative responses. One, report the person to their manager, or two, forget it and never shop in the store again.

May I suggest a third alternative. Engage and bless. Yes, forgive them, but do shop there again. Next time, be prepared to meet the same clerk with a kind word or simple testimony about God's goodness. Only a few words are necessary. Keep it simple. Embrace the opportunity to share the Good News of Christ and show God's grace and love to the person. Some people who are rude are simply having a bad day, not feeling well, or may have had a tragedy in their life and their rudeness is a response to that. Others, are simply rude as a way of life. Whatever the cause of the rudeness or poor service, our response should be in many situations to engage and bless.

One day, I "cut off" a man in traffic. He was very angry at me and road rage was his pattern. When I knew that I made an error, I simply smiled, looked over to him, waved, and mouthed the words, "I'm sorry" This simple act of kindness disarmed the other driver who wanted to run me off the road. (he didn't smile back! Smile)

Anyway, Olivia, I hope this and the other comments made help you deliver great service for the Lord next time you are confronted with rudeness or bad attitudes of others.

God Bless You.

Nick P.
