Could you give me some insight on Matthew 5:48 where it is said "be prefect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect"?

Melissa, in the context of Matthew 5:46-48, I believe Jesus is saying to emulate the Father. The Greek word translated in this verse is "teleios", meaning more complete or mature. The one who loves without reward or greets everyone with kindness, rather than reserving their kindness for a select few, acts in a more mature way. Only God is perfect, but He has shown us the way to live and love and we are to follow the example He has given us through His Son, Jesus.
I hope this helps. God bless you! Chelki Exodus 34:6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;" "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!" -- Jesus, the Messiah!, our salvation. |

Thank you Chelki that really helps. I know I could never be perfect like God. I just needed some clarification about the word perfect used in this verse. The first perfect has a total diffrent meaning then then the secound.

It feels similar to the verse be ye holy (set apart) as I am holy.
"The more you know, the more you should realize how much you have to learn" Slade "God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you" (1 Sam 12:23) "let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified" (70 Ps 4) All scriptures are King James (Authorized) Version unless otherwise noted http://willbf.yolasite.com/ |

Something else to consider.....
Jesus was in continual discussion and debate with the Pharisees regarding the issue of righteousness. One of the reasons the Pharisees rejected Jesus is that they did not feel they needed any "help" with reaching God. They had their system of rules which became their system of righteousness - they felt they were good enough. But Jesus says in many different ways that the standard for God is perfection. In order to be in the presence of God we must be absolutely perfect. He follows this up in all His teaching by saying that no one can reach absolute perfection on their own, thus the need to come to God and ask for His righteousness (perfection) to be given. This righteousness is now granted through faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sin. |

Amen to that Steve.

I been preaching Heb 7: 19 for at least 3 weeks now; "For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God."

Margaritas are usually 3 parts tequila, 2 parts orange liqueur, 1 part lime juice. Like Cigarlady said, this is going to make one that's way too tart. The citrus press from Willams-Sonoma is about twice as expensive as it should be, incidentally. Then there was the bartender who made a couple of twists... Lapis tequila, Cuarenta y Tres liqueur, and fresh lime and orange juices. Oh, MAN was it ever delicious. Dudesinmexico, that's not a margarita; margaritas have the orange liqueur. Tommy's is serving tequila rickeys under the guise of margaritas. Bob, it may be easier to leave your capslock on all day, but it is much, much more polite to take the fraction of a second necessary to hit the capslock key. ____________________________________________________________________________ best auto insurance rates | playstation 3 repair service | social media marketing consultants This message has been edited. I made this recipe about a week ago and I have been craving it ever since. I will be making it again this weekend for my Dad's 87th birthday dinner. This is THE best roast chicken recipe I have ever tried and it will be the last one I ever use! I have always searched for new recipes to use for anything I make because I love to cook and I love trying new things ... but this one is definitely a keeper! I used celery, leek, garlic and onion for the bed and roasted carrots, potatoes, brussels sprouts and more onions with the bird. Fantastic! ___________________________________________________________________________ plastic surgeon oklahoma city | pn50a450 plasma | reading glasses women This message has been edited.
