I know that is it no right to have to much pride. However, I am struggling with pride in certian areas of my life. How do i work through it. I know my first step is to pray. Does anyone have any scrpitures, or know of any books i maybe able to read on PRIDE. I do not like the feeling and what it does to me. It robs me of some blessings i know God has in store for me.

Tanya,

Steve's answer is right on. Here are some scriptures on pride that might help.

Ps 36:11
Ps 73:6
Prov 8:13
Prov 13:10
Prov 16:18
Prov 29:23
Ezek 16:49
Dan 4:37
Dan 5:20
Amos 8:7
Zech 11:3
Mark 7:22
1 Tim 3:6
1 John 2:16

This last weekend I went to a second Men's Encounter and we released pride and many other iniquities, bondages etc... and buried them on the cross. The one thing I learned on pride it is the illusion that leads people into superficiality, inflates their egos, and makes them believe that their worth is based on position money or friends. These " vantities" turn into strongholds for people who open the door to them. As we know Vanities lead us to believe that their own ability has given them positions of importance. God wants us to be prosperous. When we love Him, He lifts us to a better postion. God, not His blessings, gives us our value. If we seek Him first, the rest will be added to us. God, NOT VANITIES, WILL GIVE US RESPECT AND AUTHORITY.

May the Lord continue to bless your soul as you reach deeper in growth with Him.

I thank God for our Friendship!!!

Keep in Touch my sister in Christ!

I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. Romans 1:11-12

Hello Tanya,

The sin of pride infects everyone. Pride seems to have been ingrained in us from the time we are very small. We are taught to be proud, to have high "self esteem", to be arogant and in so doing, to stand above the rest to succeed in life.

Pride in the church is even more evil, in that is a subtle sin. Many prideful people do not even sense their sin, or have been prideful so long that they are dulled to it's awareness in them.

Ironically, pride in a Christian is a strange beast to get a handle on. The more we believe that we have traveled away from it, the more we believe we have eliminated pride from our life, the closer we have moved toward it.

The opposite of pride is humility. I love this parable in Luke 18:

Luke 18
10 " Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."

Humility is trying to see ourselves through God's eyes, rather than through our own.

Perhaps the scriptures outlined in the attached article will be helpful to you, as they have been to me, in providing guidance on how to develop humility in your walk with the Lord.

but with humility comes wisdom.

I think one way to deal with pride is on our knees...I don't want to sound pious or throw in cliches but in all honesty,...the Word does instruct us to humble ourselves "under the mighty hand of God" and in due time He will exalt us. I love praying the Psalm, "Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me..." I think taking time to be quiet before the Lord in this way will help us to listen to what He is telling us...He will shine His light on areas of pridefulness and make us aware of it so that we can realize when it happens and seek His help and forgiveness. Jealousy and pride are two biggies I struggle with, half my battle is identifying when they rear their ugly heads. It's then that I am convicted to immediately take the time to confess and turn. Eventually the attacts and tempations become less and less. (i.e. Don't wait until sinful pride humbles us...rather it's better to humble ourselves... Smile
