Biblically, who is responsible for financial stability in the home? (i.e. paying bills that are necessary versus luxury items) I have a friend who asked me this question a while back and I had no clear answer. HELP!

Katherine - Though you may find many opinions to this question, there is no real Biblical guidance. Anyone can take the responsibility for actually paying the bills (sitting down and writing out the checks).

However, I'm concerned about the way the question is worded "responsible for financial stability" and "paying bills that are necessary versus luxury items." I think I know where you are going with this question but I would like for you to expand on what you're really asking.

Though anyone can physically pay the bills in a family and not be out of Biblical guidance, there is definitely a Biblical order of leadership within a family that ought to be maintained.

I don't want to go into detail too much for fear of betraying confidences. My friend loves her husband and wants to be a Godly wife but their relationship is strained due to money problems (my money vs. your money) and it is making bill paying pretty difficult when money is spent on luxury items instead of monthly bills and food. I think what she was asking was if it was biblically okay to discuss with her husband his spending habits and how to do so without sounding judgemental as he has quite an aversion to Christianity at the present time. My heart goes out to them both as it would be difficult to resolve any issue without the Lord. I pray this explanation makes the situation clearer... Thank you.

Wow! That is really powerful and so helpful! I can sure use this myself (in fact I e-mailed it to myself so that I can read it more thoroughly again!) This has hit the nail on the head for both my friend and I! I didn't expect this to come back on me but our wonderful Lord works in mysterious ways. Ha! Ha! He really does have a sense of humor! Thank you so much - your friend in Christ....
