So I am guessing that you are not counting the gifts of the spirit mentioned in 1 Cor 12:7-11 among the fruits.

"The more you know, the more you should realize how much you have to learn"

Slade

"God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you" (1 Sam 12:23)

"let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified" (70 Ps 4)

All scriptures are King James (Authorized) Version unless otherwise noted

Thanks for the verses and the question. I would be interested in hearing more details on the significance of the fruit of the spirit and the gifts of the spirit. I will study up on it as well.

I didn't do an in-depth study of the difference or similarities of the whole "fruits vs gifts" thing, but let me explain something God taught me about fruits.

Remember this passage? "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (Mt 7:16-20) well I always thought that meant that if someone displays the qualities of "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance" that meant that they had the fruit of God or the Gospel. And that may very well be the case but trip out on this - remember when Jesus was talking about the parable of the sower? he said "The seed is the word of God." (Lk 8:11) so think about it - fruit has the seed inside... That means that it is not so much your behavior that is your fruit, but rather how your behavior affects other people - because the word of God can't be in a behavior but it can be in a person & the word of God is the seed that is inside of your fruit.

In other words, after people talk to you are they more likely to glorify God or the devil? Jesus called us lights because people are supposed to be able to look at us & then know which way to go after. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Mt 5:16) - it just dawned on me God's word is inside of us & that is what makes us or allows us to be lights - "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (119 Ps 105). So the more of the word of God that we put in other people the more they become lights.
