ISAIAH
Chapter 2:5

Isaiah 2:5

quote:
"Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the LORD."

This invitation parallels the "come" of the nations in verse 3. The "light of the Lord" in this context refers specifically to the instruction of the Lord and His ways. Isaiah pleads with his people to respond to the Lord in such a way, that together with him they might fulfill their divinely appointed purpose as a holy nation and be the source of His knowledge and instruction to the rest of the world. If Israel is to fulfill their divine purpose in the nations coming and being blessed by the God of Jacob, then it is imperative that the house of Jacob first come to walk in His light.

Psalm 43:3
"O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling places."

Psalm 119:105
"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path."

To walk in the light of the Lord is not only to walk in the light of His instruction, but in the Presence of the One Who is the light.

Psalm 27:1
"The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?"

Prophetically speaking of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah spoke these words making reference to light as the presence and knowledge of the Lord.

Isaiah 9:2-3
"The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them. 3 You shall multiply the nation, You shall increase their gladness; They will be glad in Your presence As with the gladness of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil."

Isaiah 49:6
"He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.'"

Jesus was the Light of the world as He was the Presence of God on earth. Because, all knowledge of God and truth resided in Him, He is often called the "Living Word". He not only possessed all truth, but faithfully did all the Father instructed Him.

John 8:12
"Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.'"

2 Corinthians 4:6
"For God, who said, 'Light shall shine out of darkness,' is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ."

As the house of Jacob was to be a light to the rest of the world, we also have the responsibility to shed the light of the Lord in our relationships.

Matthew 5:16
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Ephesians 5:8
"for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light"

As a Chosen People, Israel was to be a light of God's goodness and blessing, the greatest blessing of all being that of the Messiah. As we accept His gift of salvation and follow in His footsteps, we continue to be the light in the darkness for others to come to the knowledge of God. He is our only hope in a darkened world. May we shine throughout the world so that whosoever will, will be drawn to "come".

Revelation 22:17
"And the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely."
